Description
-
Letter reading "Office of The Tribune, Winnipeg, Oct. 25th, 1897. Dear Sir,- Some weeks ago we sent you a circular and blank for requesting you to forward us a list of the householders receiving mail matter at your office who are not now subscribers to The Weekly Tribune. As you have evidently overlooked our request we now forward you a number of sample copies of the paper and would ask you to kindly distribute them as far as they will go to those householders, farmers especially, who are not getting The Tribune. We are still anxious to get the list of names we asked for, and would again request that you would send it, indicating as far as you can those to whom you have handed a sample copy of the paper. Our offer to you of a free copy of our great Jubilee picture, "Queen Victoria and her Premiers", still holds good, as well as the offer of The Weekly Tribune, for 50 cents from now to Jany 1st 1899. We are sure you would be delighted with a copy of our beautiful historic premium, and we trust we may hear from you, with the list of names, by return mail. Your careful distribution of the sample copies will greatly oblige. Yours truly, The Tribune Pub. Co."

Letter to Angus McKay from [?] MacFarlane:

Institution

Univesity Library, University of Saskatchewan
-
Description
-
Letter reading "Personal. St. John's Winnipeg. 28 Oct. 1901. My dear Mr MacKay[ie McKay], I had been thinking that I had not heard from you for a long time, when your welcome favor of 14 Oct came to hand this morning. I am glad to hear that you are all well and doing well at the [?] [?] at Green Lake. I don't know why; but I did not think Mr McDougall would go out of the way to help you in the service. Mr Hall however, is a fair and just man, but I don't know if he will go back to Prince Albert, when his "leave of absence" at Victoria, B.C. expires. At present, the Commissioner and Dr. Milne, Mr Beerton's[?] successor, are now in Montreal, and have been there for some time for some reason beknownst to themselves. "In Donald" the papers say, leaves from London on 12 November. I think you will find Mr Anderson an improvement on King. I hear the latter has remained at Y. Factory after all; but I cannot say what becomes of John [?] Macdonald. Changes and [?] seem to be the "order of the day" these times. You kust have had wonderfully high water all over your Section of Country this past season; but it is pleasant to [?] that you managed the new route first class. I hope you may have a successful winter of it this year in all aspects. Opposition is a great cause at any time; but especially of later years. [?] the distance MacKenzie River has suffered terrible from this cause, while the Company's that [?] policy in respect to their Inland Fur Traders, is doing them great and unrepairable injury. Poor Angus was very unfortunate. I doubt if the Company will aid him much, if at all. He should not have left the house without anybody therein to take care of the goods during his absencee. I saw him, wife and child when they were in Winnipeg last August. My wife spent nearly 2 months at Dawson City last summer, she was absent in the West altogether from 16 July until 7 October last. She enjoyed the trip very much. [?] is by this time a full fledged Barrister and Attorney and is in partnership with [?] Thornburn from the East. Our second daughter Elsie decided to remain out there as typist[?] and stenographer and may get from a hundred to a hundred fifty dollars a month for her services! All the Winnipeg boys were well and doing well. [?] son of Dr MacKay of Edmonton came in in bad health and may have to go South for the winter. Thanks to [?] abundance at the last two matches, no intermediate [?] [?] [?] [?] lost the championship which they held for year and now last fall in three straight games. The [?] lost one and won one game and next Saturday both play the last game of the season. You will see accounts of all the Matches in the Free Press, Telegram and Tribune. I shall always be glad to hear from you with an [?] also to Mrs McKay and yourself, Believe me yours ever Sincerely, [?] MacFarlane/ A. McKay Esq"
