Description: Late eighteenth-century map of the Port of San Diego, California from a map by cartographer and explorer Jean-François de Galaupe, Count of La Pérouse (or Lapérouse). This map is based on surveys of the area by Juan Pantoja. Drawn during a French scientific expedition to the Pacific in 1785-1788. Last contact with the expedition was in 1788, after which they were never heard from again. This map was engraved by L. Aubert and published in "Atlas de Voyage de La Pérouse" in 1897. Scale at bottom reads: Milles Marins de 60 au degré.
