Col Quimets battalion expected arrives here tomorrow am at seven oclock a portion of the company will go to MacLeod on monday or tuesday next gen strange has issued orders directing billeting for their troops in the town & it is understood that a division will be sent north towards Edmonton the advisability this step was suggested some days ago by your Correspondent and the probability a force being sent from this point was duly telegraphed to the timer Capt steel who arrived from mountains has been asked to take Command of detachment mounted infantry from gen Stranges Command who will advance at the head of eastern Division & act as escorts & mounted infantry as occasion may require Capt Steele is not in good health & it is not likely will go unless he receives special orders though he is ready & willing No Courriers [sic] arrived from Edmonton & McLeod today up to four oclock but despatches are expected this evening from both places the trails between this point & the Crossing of Red Deer river are in splendid Condition our forces march forty four miles per day Can be made great difficulty beyond Red Deer are expected Edmonton trails are not so good but troops can easily make 30 miles per day if transport wagons be used the distance can be covered in four days complaint is made to trouble government that no allowance of 35 cents per day for Billiting [sic] incoming troops is too small together 3 meals a day must be furnished besides lodging forty men will be required at barracks with Gen Strange volunteers about 100 will be quartered in Calgary Theatre Hall & remainder distributed about town sufficient rations have been ordered from H B Cos store here & the removal of troops will more exciting than that of british association Gen Strange has ordered large supply of medical stock & a hospital Corps will be organized in connection with western Div Weather here continues clear & beautiful Vegetables progressing rapidly Courier from MacLeod who arrived yesterday reports wheat looking splendid along high river Capt Stewart has arrived at MacLeod with most of his staff Kamloops
