Description
-
Letter from Alfred J. Pyke, principal of Saskatoon Collegiate Institute (presently named Nutana Collegiate), to Thomas W. Mitchell, Canadian artist, speaking of the decision to purchase Mitchell's "The End of the Portage." The painting was chosen by the Pauline Club, a choral group from SCI, "as a special memorial picture to the member of the Pauline Club who fell overseas." Pyke also says that the Memorial Art Gallery is a student-driven activity, as they organized a stock company called the S.C.I. Memorial Art Gallery Company so that the students and other contributors truly "own the pictures." He also asks Mitchell to provide some further information about his painting.
