Images of a statue of Ghandi who promoted the idea of peaceful resistance and eventually won the independence of Indian from Britain in 1947 - 21st Street East and 2nd Avenue - Donated by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India and the Saskatoon India- Canada Cultural Association - Saskatoon is the only city to be gifted with a bronze statue of Gandhi which represents the principles of tolerance and peace. Plaque states – "MAHATMA GANDHI" 2nd October 1869-30th January 1948 NON-VIOLENCE IS A UNIVERSAL LAW ACTING UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES GIFTED BY THE INDIAN COUNCIL FOR CULTURAL RELATIONS (GOVERNMENT OF INDIA) FACILITATED BY THE GANDHI STATUE COMMITTEE THE INDIA-CANADA CULTURAL ASSOCIATION THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF INDIA, VANCOUVER, B.C. ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE OF INDIAN HERITAGE IN SASKATCHEWAN THE CITY OF SASKATOON SASK. CANADA SCULPTOR: RAM VANJI SUTAR MAHARASHITRA, INDIA INAUGURATED ON 2nd OCTOBER 2000"
