This letter is from the Florence Kirk collection at the University of Regina Archives and Special Collections. Kirk spent 18 years teaching English at Ginling College in Nanking (Nanjing), China. In Nanjing Kirk was witness to both the Japanese invasion and occupation (1937-45) and the civil war that resulted in the establishment of the People’s Republic. Her archival collection contains a series of correspondence, covering the period from 1932 to 1950, that provides a compelling, captivating, and profoundly moving record of war though the eyes of a Saskatchewan resident.
