Printed on card taped to back: "The Gitche Wa Teepee (Great White House) of Capt. E.M. Pierce in Cannington Manor. Built in 1883-1884; portion on left was added later (note small windows in upper storey [sic] of cubicles of the farm pupils. Built of logs and covered with siding. Cupola on top holds the bell which was used to call the men from the fields; this was the second bell in Cannington, the first being that of the church which is still in position. This one is now in the Anglican church at Manor. Out buildings and stable to right, close to the house in case of blizzards. Artist unknown; his monogram is unreadable. The original sketch is in the Archive in Regina; it was supplied by Mrs. Irene (Pierce) Manion of Tulameen, B.C. and may be the only surviving picture of the house."
