Transcript of audio excerpt (edited by Interviewer): [Adrian Paton discusses berry picking] "It was an outing, and a way to get some fresh fruit, which wasn’t very plentiful in[by] any other avenue. It’s hard to explain these things. My grandparents homesteaded there fairly early, and they were talking, my dad was telling me this story, my neighbour was out ploughing his land, and he came in there around dinner time, and he was very thankful for a meal. He had lived off roots and whatever he had ploughed up for three or four days; that’s all he’d had to eat. So he’d of had some berries or whatever, well they[berries] wouldn’t have been in season likely, but he hadn’t had any supplies with him."
